Wisconsin Dells Convention Hosting Stage II Move Toward Baraboo

The Village of Lake Delton has given the Kalahari Resort 10 million publicly collected dollars to build a convention center ( 212 thousand square feet) capable of serving large regional - national groups.  This huge investment of public resources is expected to attract a whole new population of shared customers in to the Wisconsin Dells area.

The Kalahari Resort Convention Center rests on a parcel of land close to Baraboo - between a small residential neighborhood and the interstate.  One family with plans to stay there for summer of 2019 vacation explained their reasons for going toward historic down town Baraboo - rather than the down town Wisconsin Dells area.

- Taking the back way from Kalahari Drive to Bunker Drive and down County Trunk A we find historic down town Baraboo to be closer than Wisconsin Dells down town - so less of a drive

- Historic down town Baraboo does not have the parking meters that down town Wisconsin Dells has - which charge one dollar per hour with collections agencies that follow you home.

- Historic down town Baraboo shops do not charge the aggressive extra 1.25 percent tax on each individual purchase like they do in down town Wisconsin Dells

- Historic down town Baraboo will not have road construction this summer like they will have in down town Wisconsin Dells which causes the longer - frustrating waits in traffic

The family explained how the kids found a secret passage off the Baraboo square near the Al. Ringling Theatre that delivers you to the rear in the alley.  The picture shows the secret passage the kids were describing.   The Mourning Hour is one of the movies that have been filmed at the Al Ringling Theatre in Baraboo.

The Wisconsin Dells area has entered stage II of the convention hosting industry.  This involves the Village of Lake Delton giving the Kalahari Resort 10 million public collected dollars to build a convention center.  The Village of  Lake Delton is giving financial incentives to franchise hotel operators who locate in the Wisconsin Dells area. The Village of Lake Delton is giving financial incentives to property owners who build housing for temporary work staff on their property.  The Village of Lake Delton is clearing land closer to the convention center for a law enforcement building.  It appears historic down town Baraboo will benefit from this top down effort to grow the local economy as well.
