Baraboo Wisconsin Hospital Get Opioid Users 2 Treatment

The opioid epidemic has moved community partners to focus on collaborative efforts to save lives.  The non-prescribed use of opioids (oxycodone, hydrocodone, morphine, fentanyl, heroin) is causing unexpected death across Wisconsin.

Kitchen chemists combining unknown quantities with unknown substances has produced street drugs that kill the user.  In 2015 Wisconsin health records indicate 872 people died from drug over doses.

The Sisters of Saint Mary (SSM) Baraboo Wisconsin Hospital Emergency Services have plans to implement opioid epidemic specific programming designed to transition users in to treatment.  Part of this practice includes recovery coaches that have addiction and recovery experience and can communicate with the user in a way they can hear the conversation.

Community partners committed to forging systems to better address the opioid epidemic have become increasingly aware of the barriers to treatment. Opioid users are not your typical ill person.  A network driven approach seems to be an essential piece of stopping the deaths.

Home Care Path has implemented additional training to help prevent accidental exposure.  The potency of the substances have sent individuals in to the hospital by simply accidentally touching their skin to a scant amount.  The substance drops and can stop the respiration rate.  Not breathing contributes to death.

Home Care Path believes providing the community with knowledge of the opioid epidemic is a means to improve the over all function of the ongoing effort being taken by many partners.
