Wisconsin Dells Convention Hosting Stage II - Establish Trust Sellers Permit

The Village of Lake Delton has given the Kalahari Resort 10 million publicly collected dollars to build a convention center ( 212 thousand square feet) capable of serving large regional - national groups.  This space will be rented by varied non-local convention organizers on behalf of a group who will hold their event.

Some groups renting the space may conduct a product show where vendors are selling directly to the public on the convention floor. It will be essential for the Village of Lake Delton to have a process in place that assures each vendor selling products to the public on the floor of the convention center has a local sellers permit and is capable of collecting the additional resort tax.  Products in the Wisconsin Dells area come with an added resort tax at each individual transaction.

This process should apply across the Wisconsin Dells area which would add a measure of trust for existing sellers that are required to charge the consumer the additional tax. The idea of the need for trust has become more prevalent with the published loss of over 350 thousand dollars.  The money is missing from the fund of the Lake Delton Fire Department and the fund of the Wisconsin Dells and Lake Delton Emergency Medical Services.

A 350 thousand dollar loss by the local administration leaves the business community questioning why some of this money is being collected and where exactly is it going.  This goes directly to compliance - sellers will be less likely to comply if they do not trust the system.  This adds cost by requiring the administration to have follow up in place that assures all the sellers- that the permits are being purchased and the extra resort tax is being collected.

The Wisconsin Dells Community wants the new convention center to be able to rent space to groups that plan to sell products directly to the public- but they will need a local permit and demonstrate the ability to collect the additional resort tax at each individual transaction.  The Wisconsin Dells area has entered stage II of the convention hosting industry.
