Dementia Friends and Family Notice First

Memory loss often described as early onset dementia will be picked up by people closest to the person experiencing the symptoms.  The individual will describe the symptoms as "getting stuck".

The person with dementia always puts peanut butter on their toast , they can put the plate, silver ware, toast the bread, but unexplainably cannot locate the peanut butter.  Often accepting the solution flashed across the screen of the mind - someone put the peanut butter back in the wrong place.   The individual with dementia is now stuck and demanding to know where the other family members put the peanut butter.

Friends and family by instinct will immediately begin to participate in a more simplified, routine, structured activity with daily life to help support the individual experiencing memory loss.  Family and friends soon discover new is stressful and anxiety is not helpful for an individual experiencing memory loss.

This explains how in Track Memory 2 Zero

in increment 3 family and friends recognize the memory loss is requiring the help of another.  This typically occurs before a medical clinic visit is able to establish a diagnosis.

The needs of a person with memory loss do not take on a medical appearance until the staff at the doctors office can demonstrate evidence with the tests and document a diagnosis.  This simply reinforces the fact that dementia does not display needs an individual discipline can effectively meet on their own.

The individual usually needs help with the more complex instrumental activities of daily living  before a diagnosis is documented in the medical chart.  Family and Friends soon learn the needs are real but do not fit neatly in a medical category.

Home Care Path is an elder care provider specializing in helping with non-medical supportive care needs.

Our elder support partners perform a service where the focus is communication, collaboration, and coordination.  This higher level delivery involves tasks beyond the typical bedside duties an inpatient aide would perform for the patient.

As the dementia process progresses the individual will manifest the need for help with activities of daily living - which reside within the medical category of treatable conditions.
