VA to use Data to inform Prescribing Process

VA Secretary for Health Carolyn Clancy has facilitated increased access to The Opioid Therapy Risk Report computer application for prescribing providers.  This will lend a measure of consistency to this national process.

This has regulatory implications that can help insure individual patients with chronic severe pain have access to important medication with treatment.  Designed to help busy providers keep a closer eye on their patents use of pain medications.

Collected data is an important participant in the research driving prescribing policy.  Easy input and prescribing guidelines help move large pain medication delivery systems to an accepted standard of practice.  This is a progressive, proactive, implementation and will be deemed an asset to the important service the Veterans Administration provides to communities.
