What Am I Buying Health Insurance Marketplace

Understanding what the health insurance industry will deliver with the plans being marketed has to do with EHB.  Essential Health Benefits (EHB) describes 10 services that must be covered with health insurance.  The (ACA) Affordable Care Act ensures health insurance offered in group and individual markets both inside and outside the Health Insurance Exchange Marketplace, provide a comprehensive package of items and services, known as Essential Health Benefits.

This creates a standard , uniform structure for all health plans.  This improves the buyers ability to understand what they are receiving when they purchase the health insurance plan.  This gives the clinics, hospitals, and nursing homes a clear idea of the services that will be reimbursed post provision.

The 10 Essential Health Benefits List

1. Ambulatory patient services, this is outpatient care without being admitted to the hospital

2. Emergency services

3. Hospitalization

4. Maternity and  newborn care

5. Mental health and substance use disorder services, including behavioral health treatment, this includes counseling and psychotherapy

6. Prescription drugs

7. Rehabilitative and habilitative services and devices to help people with injuries, disabilities, or chronic conditions gain or recover mental and physical skills

8.  Laboratory services

9. Preventive and wellness services and chronic disease management

10. Pediatric services.

The health insurance plans now afford families a broader menu of needed services.  No more worry about what might develop over time and trying to intuit how to scrounge resources to help.  When the unexpected need presents itself, the health insurance plan can support the family through the treatment and ongoing recovery process.

Having a way for families to effectively meet an unexpected health need is believed to be a primary force for improving productivity and facilitating a stronger economy.  Home Care Path encourages readers to follow this issue as it unfolds in the next few months.
