Wisconsin Care Giver Shortage Crisis 2018 - Legislative Influence

Wisconsin is experiencing a care giver shortage that has reached crisis levels.  Care giving organizations are working to influence Wisconsin law makers to compensate for this crisis.  The crisis can be described as an inverse relationship.  The crisis means:

- Care giver participation is decreasing across the State of Wisconsin

-  While at the same time

- The elderly population needing care giver support is increasing

Recommendation:

The Wisconsin Department of Health and Human Services should work with State lawmakers to enable regulations that expand utilization of self - direction in long term supports so that family, friends, and neighbors can be hired as Direct Support Care Givers.

Home Care Path operates an elder care assistant program that enables experienced care givers to function more autonomously while supporting them with marketing, payroll, and billing tasks.
