Wisconsin Family Care Program Experiencing HUGE Change

The Wisconsin Family Care Program is experiencing huge change.  This is a top down response to a data review that demonstrated a much larger need than the fund could effectively support.  The aging of the population produces a consistent need for additional help of another within many households across the large State of Wisconsin.

Legislation moves the Wisconsin long term care Family Care program from a (CMO) Care Management Organization administered service to a Health Insurance plan model of delivery. The day the legislative change was published the existing Family Care Program began to disassemble.

The Care Management Organizations began internal strategies to limit acceptance of new intakes.  The Care Management Organization staff has been leaving to employment with other companies that can assure some longevity.  The Care Management Organizations have closed several locations.

The Care Management Organizations describe the closing of locations as a planned merging of offices across the service area.  The State of Wisconsin Department of Health Services describes this activity as less need and changes related to the States announcement of adapting an Independent Appointed Agency to conduct need assessments.

These are predictable events set in motion with the legislative changes.  This is just a glimpse of how these huge changes are appearing within the Family Care Program service area.
