Wisconsin Enact Tele-Assessment Personal Care Medicaid Legislation

Will Wisconsin enact legislation that reimburses tele-assessment for personal care on behalf of Medicaid beneficiaries.  The 2015 budget identifies funding for independent personal care assessments.  The independent assessment facilitates the ability of large insurance plans to authorize the provision of personal care service through local providers.

Wisconsin legislators recently enacted AB 458 assuring mental health providers of being reimbursed for conducting health care and education using electronic telecommunication from a remote location .  Simply, a mental health professional contracted to provide service in the State of Wisconsin to medical assistance beneficiaries can receive payment for services conducted across electronic lines.

Tele-visits are achieving parity - being considered equal in status and with levels of reimbursement.  Could Wisconsin choose to contract with tele-assessment providers who would be reimbursed for electronic visits that complete independent personal care assessments?
