Just Back From Dementia Crisis Training Columbia Sauk Marquette Counties

Home Care Path just attended the comprehensive Dementia Crisis Training held at the prestigious Wintergreen Resort and Conference Center in Wisconsin Dells. This training was driven by a grant awarded to Columbia County Aging and Disability Resource Center.

The Dementia Crisis Training was focused on training individuals that will continue to train people in their community.  This is educating the members of the community to try to get people to reach out for help before a crisis. 

Dementia is a progressive set of symptoms associated with a medical diagnosis.  Dementia does not progress the same way in every individual.  The saying goes - if you know one person that has dementia , well you know one person that has dementia. 

The number one risk factor for dementia is age.  The older one gets the greater the risk for dementia.  Wisconsin being predominantly rural tends to produce families that seek help in the latest of stages.  One of the outcomes listed as part of  this training is to help support activity that causes families to seek assistance for an elder with dementia sooner.
