TOILETING

Toileting can be identified as an area most private to the senior. Interviews often reveal a senior is unsure about toileting ability and patterns. But it is important to realize it is not just seniors. All individuals when questioned about toileting ability and patterns seem unsure. Toileting is something that must be done daily. Often seniors take more time getting to the bathroom. Seniors may not ambulate as swiftly as a teen would. Often seniors take more time with clasps and buttons. Seniors may not have the dexterity at teen would. Seniors may not void, completely drain bladder as quickly as a teen would. Often toliets are low and the senior may experience difficulty rising from the toilet seat. Seniors may be taking medications designed to increase urinary out put. This can result in more frequent trips to the bathroom. Seniors may use and adult breif or pad to combat drainage. Seniors using adult breif or pad would still go to toilet. Positioning of the adult breif or pad after using a public toilet may be time consuming for the senior. Toileting can be time consuming and may require help of another.
