Medical Health Care Centers Want Financial Counselors

Medical systems made up of clinics, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities have consolidated in to groups to spread risk across the system of care delivery.  Legislative regulations have fostered a needs based approach to a patients consumption of medical treatment.

Expanding coverage has included availability of high out of pocket health insurance plans.
Larger medical systems are working diligently on the process for effectively serving patients with high out of pocket expense.

This forces medical systems to craft internal policy designed to appropriately care for patients presenting with high out of pocket health insurance plans.  Medical systems have employed financial counselors who can effectively communicate cost of the scheduled elective treatment and receive a check for continuation.

This is a delicate position as the treatment staff want the consumer to get the surgery so they have work and can stay in practice.  The fiscal office wants the consumer to pay their high out of pocket so the medical center can stay in business.  The financial counselor will need to discuss risk of waiting along with the need to pay today. Some patients choose to wait.

This pushes the consuming community to better understand what exactly they are being charged for when their loved one needs the help of the medical system.  Analysis easily correlates increases in bad hospital debt with high out of pocket health plans.

This is labor intense as many consumers cannot verbalize how the transaction between the insurance plan and the medical provider looks.  The employed financial counselors are confronted with forging an understandable picture of a very un- transparent billing mechanism to ill individuals.  This can reinforce perceptions of a fragmented medical model of delivery.
