Wisconsin's Basin and so called filial support initiatives

The average cost for staying in a nursing home for one year in Wisconsin is 97,445.00 according to a recent data review conducted by Genworth Financial Inc.  If you came to the nursing home after spending 3 days in a hospital Medicare will help with paying for the first 100 days.  After the first 100 days the nursing home will look to private pay options which include a long term care insurance policy or monetary assets.  The other option is Medicaid which would require possessing few assets and a small income.

Some States have supported legislation which facilitates the ability of long term care nursing facilities to attach incurred institutional expenses to the family of the elder.  This is being called filial support.  The fear is this practice will expand across the United States where the nursing home presents the children with the parents monthly invoice requesting payment.

This is a nursing home industry wide initiative to encourage families to promptly participate in the process to apply for Medicaid .  More and more the nursing homes and assisted living facilities have pushed these tasks of coordination back to the elders family.

Basin is a program developed by Home Care Path to give families a jump start on effectively managing the health, safety, and financial well being of an elder discharging from a hospital or nursing home.   Basin is a biopsychosocial approach to assisting elders with two popular senior living moves.

1. a geographical move

2. a transition from private payment to public funded  programs

The Basin service involves a consistent analysis of process information to improve productive utilization when procuring long term care products for the seniors changing needs.  Basin embraces a progressive approach to monitoring the seniors available information.  A secure information provisioning application.  A unique means to gather scattered information and transform it to a single record bank.  Enrichment includes organizing information from sources as they become known.  The personalized information is stored in a manner that improves utilization and informs ongoing care needs.   Basin folds incoming information to strengthen accuracy and deliver a measure of quality.  The unified information now lends itself for consistent access and an easy flowing productive utilization capacity.

This establishes the elders guiding assets which can personalize the actual procurement and delivery of health and wellness services.  This is a comprehensive model for arranging informational activity to produce insight in to senior living decisions.  Basin is a consultation service billed at 39.00 per hour.
