CDC Warns Wisconsin About Caramel Apples

The (CDC) Centers for Disease Control is warning consumers of individuals becoming ill after eating pre packaged caramel apples.  Symptoms include loose stools, stomach upset, fever, muscle and head ache.  This is due to a similar strain of bacteria.

Listeria is the bacteria.  The contamination likely occurred before packaging.  Infection in the human body comes after eating the caramel apples contaminated with listeria.  Pre packaged caramel apples are a Halloween and winter holiday favorite. 

The CDC is encouraging consumers to discard the pre packaged caramel apples as a way to avoid the risk of infection.  Those experiencing undesired symptoms (loose stool- fever- stomach upset) should contact their medical clinic.
