Prescription Savings Club Card Wonderful Thing

The prescription savings club card facilitates greater community access to pharmaceutical products.  An all inclusive model transcended from the exlusive insurance mode of operation.  The pharmacy retailer contracts with pharmacuetical distributers to offer discounts on individual prescribed medicines to participating consumers.  Similar to insurance the customer pays annual fee (21.00 for Walgreens) and is part of a larger group that contracts with pharmaceutical providers for a reduced price on medications.

The prescription savings club card provides the community with a super convenient way to get their prescribed medication.  To start with everyone who applies qualifies.  The prescription savings club card does not recognize pre-existing exclusions.

The prescription savings club allows a person to pay the 21.00 annual fee and immediately use the card to get the discount on the prescribed drugs.  This is instant activation, no waiting and paying more in process.  One can purchase membership online or at the pharmacy check out.

There is no limit on the number of times you can use the savings club card, so no deductable to meet.  There is no claim form to fill out.  Membership in a Walgreens prescription savings club would allow you to receive the discount through any Walgreens in the world.  The consumer is not waiting for the pharmacist to receive prior authorization from a utilization review department in a corporate insurance organization.

An example of a purchase of a 3 month supply of a newly marketed individual medication would be 407.97.  The discount card provides a 71.00 (about 18%) discount and you would pay 336.97.

An example of a purchase of a 3 month supply of an long time marketed medication would be 17.99.  The discount card provides a 11.74 (about 65%) discount and you would pay 6.25.

The consumer can recognize from the above examples, that the discounts the group can receive through contracting with a large pharmaceutical distribution organization can differ.  Each medication may have a slightly different discount.

On top of the reduced cost on prescriptions, Walgreens provides card holders with an across the board 10 percent discount on all Walgreens products.  This is an added benefit.

The prescription savings club is a group contracting with providers to reduce over all cost assisting the community to maintain a risk reserve to assure continued participation.  Sounds lot like insurance.
