The Village of Lake Delton has given the Kalahari Resort 10 million publicly collected dollars to build a convention center ( 212 thousand square feet) capable of serving large regional - national groups. The hope is this effort will attract a whole new huge population of shared customers in to the Wisconsin Dells area.
Some convention center hosted gatherings will be open to the public and include participants selling directly to attendees. Local business operators will expect to know how the Village of Lake Delton will issue timely permits and assure the extra tax is being collected for contribution to the resort tax fund at each individual point of sale. Sellers in the Wisconsin Dells area must collect the additional 1.25 percent tax for contribution to the resort tax fund. Simply items sold to attendees on the convention center floor will include the cost of the additional resort tax.
The community is hoping the convention center can become operational in the last quarter of 2019. It will be essential for the Village of Lake Delton to have a clearly defined permitting process in place prior to convention center completion. Business operators purchasing the permits will expect to understand who is responsible for compliance over site.
This permit process and the assurance of the collection of the additional resort tax is a way for the Village of Lake Delton to demonstrate evidence of a return on the hefty investment of publicly collected money. The Wisconsin Dells area has entered stage II of the convention hosting industry.
