Wisconsin Dells Convention Hosting Stage II Deer Data

The Village of Lake Delton has given the Kalahari Resort 10 million publicly collected dollars to build a convention center ( 212 thousand square feet ) capable of serving large regional - national groups.  The Kalahari Resort is located on property between a small residential neighborhood and the interstate.

This area was agriculture farm land and populated with wild deer.  Resort projects tend to purchase outlying rough land which is less expensive than the property along the parkway.  The deer can be seen grazing in the open fields toward the rear of the convention center construction project.

The (CWD) Chronic Wasting Disease - Deer and Predator Project began about 3 years ago.  About 200 deer are captured and collared each winter.  Along with this - coyotes and bobcats are captured and collared as well.  The goal is to track the animals and determine a cause of death.

Deer and coyotes seem to thrive in rough land areas where the human population increases.  This makes it possible for motorists traveling the roadways along the resort property to spot a deer or coyote wearing a collar.  The collar transmits data regarding the animals movement to a receiver.

Despite wearing a collar and being in close proximity to a resort area - the animals are wild and should not be approached.  The concern is physical harm or transmission of disease to the human.

The Wisconsin Dells area has entered stage II of the convention hosting industry.  Readers are invited to watch for future findings of the CWD- Deer and Predator Project being published.
