Medicare 2 Reimburse 4 Exercise Starting Janurary 2018

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid have authorized payment for supervised exercise as a reimbursable treatment for individuals diagnosed with peripheral artery disease.  Peripheral artery disease is the build up of plaque in the vessel which narrows to reduce blood flow causing pain contributing to immobility.

Home Care Path expects to see area medical centers begin to advertise the availability of this new service.  The Medicare policy requires a medical doctor assessment and referral.  The goal is to reduce pain, improve walking distance , which improves independence.

This will be an option other than invasive and expensive surgical catheter or bypass procedures.  Medicare will reimburse 53 dollars for each of the 36 sessions with a length of 30-60 minutes over a 12 week time period. This will involve the possibility of an additional 36 sessions.
