United States Ohio Senator Rob Portman has introduced the "Stop  Act".  This would mandate the United States Postal Service to implement an updated advance electronic data collection process. 

The United States is a strong participant in the global economy.  Electronic platforms have created an easy flow of goods between the seller and the buyer separated by a large geographical area.  Foreign trading  partners do not observe the same regulations. 

Opioids are being manufactured outside the United States and shipped through the United States Postal Service for receivers who market the controlled substance in an illegal fashion on the streets in our communities.  This is a synthetic form of opioid - crafted by kitchen chemistry labs - and sold to the United States population for a profit.  Improper use of these drugs end in death.

Portmans Stop Act implements a stronger tracking mechanism which allows enforcement to more easily target these unlawful operations that contribute to death in our local communities.  This fast access to electronic shipping information improves the monitoring of undesired packages and unscrupulous shippers.

This is a progressive approach to limiting the availability of the opioid products that have been killing our citizens.  This disrupts the trafficking system and will prevent untimely deaths in our communities.
