Wisconsin's annual archery deer season begins September 15, 2018. Wisconsin has new restrictions on moving harvested deer. The hauling of whole deer must result in an arrival at a licensed taxidermist or meat processer within 72 hours.
Those who haul to a traditional destination to cut it up and package it may experience a change. So, if the County where the deer has been shot is - CWD Affected - the hunter cannot haul the deer any farther than the County line or adjoining County - unless the meat has been boned out and left behind the brain, spinal cord, and lymph nodes.
Recommending the discarded parts be placed in a container headed for disposal in a clay lined land fill. These pre-cautions are designed to reduce the spread of CWD across the deer herd.
