Trouble With Dane County Conforming 2 Family Care

Dane County Madison Wisconsin had cleverly held off on conforming to the long term care Family Care model of delivery.  Knowing the current Wisconsin Administration had plans to mandate all long term care to regional provision through Integrated Health Agencies.  That plan fell apart with the untimely death of the Department of Health Secretary Kitty Rhoades.

In January of 2018 Dane County must transition the entire 2,200 program participants from the old Medicaid models to Family Care.  Family Care is delivered through Care Management Organizations who employ staff to help meet the need in the most cost effective way.

The State of Wisconsin has awarded contracts to Care Wisconsin and My Choice Family Care to operate as a Care Management Organization serving Dane County.  Dane County Staff and the Aging and Disability Resource Center employees will be trained on the delivery of the Family Care model.  In September of 2017 will begin group style meetings to inform the community on the delivery of  long term care through the Family Care model.

The difficulty comes in the knowledge that with a Federal push to drastically diminish Medicaid program funding the Family Care model may be deemed obsolete.  Wisconsin is trying to demonstrate a State wide delivery model which will make securing a Federal Waiver some what easier.  But both staff providing contracted service and families benefitting from care know the whole structure will be forced to change again.
