Two Wisconsin Lawmakers (Pat Snyder- Joel Kleefisch) have circulated A Right To Try Bill to get co-sponsors on board. The aim is to give terminally ill patients access to drugs in the research and development pipeline not yet approved by the Food and Drug Administration. These are drugs not yet on any health insurance plan formulary.
This could lead to presentation to legislative committee which further moves the bill in to the law making process. This seems to give terminally ill patients an opportunity to reach farther in to the research and development drug pipeline to try a drug that could have some benefit.
When the law pushes consumer access farther up the pipeline this forces the medical delivery system to alter their practice to be able to participate. The medical prescriber by their liability insurance plan could not order experimental drugs for a patient without a breach. The health insurance plans will not reimburse for experimental drugs. The local pharmacy will not stock experimental drugs.
This is not to suggest this is not possible. The drug manufacturer could over night ship a supply for consumer utilization. To get the drug and use it as manufacturer intends is the easy part. Home Care Path invites readers to watch this law making effort as it moves forward.
