Can MA Medical Assistance Medicaid Help Pay For Needed Care

Medicaid (MA, Medical Assistance) is a helpful public program jointly funded between the Federal and State Government.  Medicaid exists to assist in paying for skilled health delivery and many other medical expenses for individuals who have minimal assets and inadequate income to pay for these expenses.

In 2013 long term planners in Wisconsin used the following quick look at eligibility:

-no more than 2 thousand dollars in cash or savings

-home is exempt if the individual intends to live there

-one car with market value below 4500.00 is exempt

-life insurance is exempt if face value of all combined is less than 1500.00

-household goods and personal effects were not counted as of 2013

-prepaid funeral expenses exempt up to 3 thousand dollars

An individual would go to the County (ADRC) Aging and Disability Resource Center and request a benefits eligibility review to start the process.
