Tips For Accompanying A Person To The Hospital

Having someone along when you enter the hospital can prove to be a big help.  Some things to consider include:

1. When you are sent for a test or scan where is the person who will interpret the results located?

2. When you go for the MRI how will the doctor's nurse know you have gotten your MRI?

3. Who is the lead hospital staff giving you an over view of the ongoing flow of the visit?

4. How can you be sure not to take the same diagnostic test twice?

5. Where are you stationed when the lead hospital staff is making calls and looking up information?

6. In the absence of the hospital lead how does the doctor know which patient you are?

7. How is the prescribing provider receiving the updated test results?

8. Once the prescribing provider updates the orders how are they coordinated?

These are some things to consider when observing the inpatient hospital process.  Knowing how departments (care transitions) connect can improve the quality of the persons hospital visit.

Twitter Constructs Glitch Free IPO on NYSE

As one of the most progressive collaborative activities Twitter organized a mock period of share trading on the weekend of October 26, 2013.  The NYSE conducted a full run with agents from registered firms simulating buying and selling.  A test run to observe the flow of Twitter share trading.

Twitter has authorized 70 million shares of the company at between 17.00 to 20.00 per share.  The (IPO)  Initial Public Offering goal is to raise 1.4 billion dollars.  November 7, 2013 marks the first day of real Twitter shares trading.

Glitches can occur with the online transition process which can produce trading delays and order issues.   Glitches mean revenue loss.  Twitter teamed up with the (NYSE) New York Stock Exchange operators to perform a period of mock share trading.  The improvements post test run leave Twitter hoping investment firms report a streamlined trading experience.

Over all success will always be measured  by how the Twitter shares perform after the real trading has started.  Home Care Path wishes Twitter a record breaking IPO!!!

Wisconsin Fish Fry Price So High

Why the heck is the Wisconsin fish fry costing so much?  Under Current News has boats reporting unusually slow fishing the latter part of 2013.  This translates to less cod and haddock available to meet the strong market demand.

Recently haddock headed and gutted prices hit a 7 year high.  This is the highest cost has been since June of 2006.  Fishing sources theorize warmer ocean water temperatures are causing cod, haddock to swim closer to the surface (Russia, Norway side) making themselves harder to catch.

Likely quotas pre set to protect the oceans fish beds will not be met for 2013.  This means no big cod or haddock accumulations for the hungry food services.  Thankfully Wisconsin still has the precious blue gill to fall back on.  Home Care Path encourages viewers to watch the Friday fish fry prices.

HMSY Stock HMS Holdings Corp

As public programs expand to deliver health care to large populations the prized service is cost containment.  HMSY HMS Holdings Corp provides a service set designed to contain costs with large health care programs.

Innovative cost containment is necessary to preserve the financial integrity of the program.  HMSY utilizes technology to mine information.  Technological procurement structure identifies and isolates system variables which can be examined for their measure of contributing quality.  This is beneficial with a break down of trend directives.  This provides a real time platform the team can push cost containment decisions from.   This is reducing (liability) risk across the over all system.

The wider reach within the data procurement process improves accuracy of placement for the pay source.  This forges numerical evidence for the order in which the programs payment is properly due.  The system to request and receive over payment is operable. This is performing recovery.

The speed at which claims can be appropriately handled is an imperative piece of delivering care to a larger population.  Ongoing development of information collection and storage to facilitate an evidence based evolution is important.  Rapid access to the data needed to satisfy the influx of claims is essential to managing the out flow of revenue.  HMS Holdings Corp can adapt its service to the changes in level of need the health care delivery program can experience with growth.

HMSY HMS Holdings Corp contains cost through a technological service designed to reduce risk, manage outflow, and perform recovery.  Home Care Path encourages viewers to watch this stock as health care programs expand in the next year.

Out Of Pocket Limit 6350 Health Plan

Under Federal law out of pocket limits cannot exceed 6350.00 for an individual.  Once the out of pocket expense limit is reached your plan covers one hundred percent of the eligible expenses.  Your monthly premium does not count in the calculation of your out of pocket expense.

This establishes a balanced relationship between the consumer, the health care provider, and the insurance payer.  The health insurance industry has attached additional consumer payment in the form of deductibles, co- insurance percentage, and co-payments to the medical process.  Regardless of the presentation of the fee's connected to deductibles, co-insurance, and co-payments the annual total out of pocket for an individual cannot exceed 6350.00.

Health insurance payers negotiate with the medical delivery network to achieve lower service charges for the consumer .  This is an important step toward transparency.  Health insurance plans contract with larger medical delivery networks to provide needed health care to the population.  Under the annual contract the plans beneficiary is entitled to the agreed upon procedural charge.  Staying in network the medical provider should be billing a similar charge for a similar service.

Understanding how your health insurance plan contracts with the network of medical providers helps the consumer see the purpose of receiving care within the related system.  Defining an out of pocket limit encourages the health insurance plan to engage the medical provider network in a cost savings relationship.

These are major steps in removing surprise and controlling a varied frequency of excessive medical procedural charges .  Understanding how investment connects to utilization is a proven way to engage the community members in efforts to contain cost.  Home Care Path encourages readers to follow this issue as time unfolds.

Home Care Path supports Wisconsin Senate Bill 101 Assembly Bill 151

Senate Bill 101 introduced by Senator Alberta Darling and Assembly Bill 151 introduced by Representative Pat Strachota create public policy designed to improve individual access to oral cancer treatment options.

Drug manufacturers are fast developing oral pills that can better target specific areas in the physical body preventing undesired (cancer) mass growth. The pills can mean decreased side effects (loss of hair) and improve efficacy (performance) while supporting quality of life.

The difficulty is health insurance will pay more of the cost for a patient if they receive IV infusion (medical benefit)  of chemo medication cause the cost is perceived as being less.
The health insurance industry categorizes the newly developed oral cancer treatment (pills taken orally) as a benefit of an individuals drug insurance plan.  The drug insurance provider places the chemo oral treatment pills in the most expensive tier if they offer it at all.

The IV infused chemo drugs can be much more labor intensive, requiring specially trained staff to infuse the medication.  The procedure involves needles and carries a risk of infection as well as additional pain and inconvenience for the patient.  Pills can beat out procedures in almost anyone's mind.

Drug manufacturers understand this as evidenced by approximately 25 percent of the developing chemo treatment medications (400 on course now) for utilization with a prescription are now oral.
It seems a way for the insurance industry to add value to their service is to find a way to get these new effective oral medications in the current health care delivery system.

The time for improved access to oral cancer treatment options is now.

Amerisource Bergen NYSE Stock ABC a rising star

If I had to guess on a rising stock it would be (ABC) Amerisource Bergen NYSE about 62.00 per share.  Amerisource Bergen develops pharmaceutical distribution centers that serve pharmaceutical manufacturers and health care delivery systems that supply community pharmacies, retail chain pharmacies, hospitals, physicians offices, clinics and out patient treatment stations.

Amerisource Bergen is about maintaining access to branded, generic, and over the counter medications.  The service a global distributor of drugs brings to the supply chain is cost containment.  With expertise in packaging, reimbursement and real solutions for supporting the transition from hospital to an outpatient delivery model.

Amerisource Bergen was formed in 2001 with the merger of the Amerisource Health Corporation and Bergen Brunswig Corporation. With a United States location listed in Valley Forge, PA 19482.

Every single day ten thousand more baby boomers turn the Medicare eligibility age in the Country.  Management of chronic age related disease processes is with medication.   A clinic visit prescription over a scheduled outpatient center treatment.

Amerisource is delivering the right product at the right time and supplementing it with a cost containment focus which seems to be a rich formula for a lengthy period of increasing margins of profit for share holders.

Home Care Path encourages readers to watch this stock over the next few months.

Physicians Plus Insurance Corp Expands in to Illinois and Iowa Health Markets

Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation is located 2650 Novation Parkway, Madison Wisconsin 53713.  Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation employs an integrated (managed care) care delivery model.

Meriter hospital and clinics is located 202 South Park Street, Madison Wisconsin 53715.  Two thirds of Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation is owned by Meriter hospital and clinics.

Unity Point Health is located 1776 West Lake Parkway, Suite 400, West Des Moines, Iowa 50266.  Unity Point Health just acquired Meriter hospital and clinics.  Madison Wisconsin will see the Meriter name changed to Unity Point Health-Meriter.

When Unity Point Health purchased Meriter hospital and clinics they also received two thirds of the Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation.  This facilitates the expansion of Physicians Plus Health Insurance products to be marketed in both Illinois and Iowa.

Meriter hospital and clinics being owned by a larger health care delivery business (Unity Point Health) can now negotiate lower prices on needed supplies and spread their operating expense across a larger flow of in coming revenue streams. Bigger is now seen as better.

Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation will continue to navigate care to maximize policy holder groups utilization of Unity Point Health's network of providers.  Unity Point Health as a business strategy will control the direction of consumer populations through policy that navigates Physicians Plus Insurance plan members to utilize Unity Point Health network providers.

This will increase the Unity Point Health's annual revenue while reducing the Physicians Plus Insurance Corporations out of network monetary claims.  From a public perspective this is being done to demonstrate proper stewardship over the monthly premium being paid.  Saving the internal operation money.

Meriter hospital and the Physicians Plus Insurance Corporation appear to be pro-active in changing to insure the ability to continue to effectively serve the community.   Home Care Path and the Wisconsin's PATH ALONG model would like to take this opportunity to wish Meriter Hospital, Physicians Plus Insurance, and Unity Point Health great success in this newly formed business group.

Health Insurance Products Saying Good Bye To Pre-Existing Condition

Pre-existing condition is a health condition that was diagnosed and or treated within six months prior to when the participant enrolled in the health insurance plan.  The pre-existing condition exclusion period was attached to most newly enrolled participants.  This means coverage could be excluded for a medical condition that existed prior to enrolling in the new health insurance plan.

After January 1, 2014 the pre-existing condition exclusion period will be a completely prohibited health insurance industry practice.  The health reform law prohibits the denial of coverage or charging higher premiums due to a pre-existing condition for plan and policy years beginning January 1, 2014.

As health care reform unfolds , expect communication to contain a variety of insurance industry terms and phrases. Home Care Path encourages viewers to follow the health reform roll out.

William G. Bostic jr and US Census Bureau Got Some Time Off

William G. Bostic Jr. is an Associate Director for Economic Programs with the United States Census Bureau.  Currently administering the 2012 Survey of Business Owners and Self Employed Persons (SBO).  The survey has been placed on hold with the unexpected shutting down of the United States Government.

This survey helps integrate big data collection with business service and delivery to support innovation.  The focus is now on access and utilization.  Making this data available to the business community to drive digital services and support innovation.

The goals appear to be:

1. Access anywhere and anytime

2. Improved constructs to better communicate meaning

3. Trends that can support business decisions

4. Themes that identify expansive applications that translate to improved service with decreased consumer cost

5. Timely identification of shifts that can contribute to informing public policy

This is integrating big data and getting digital constructs that support innovation to the business community in a timely fashion.  This appears to be on hold until the shut down is solved.

Twitter IPO TWTR has a plan

Social media is a hot commodity.  Twitter is a company that serves individual users.  People can shape personality and communicate an online presence to a greater portion of the world.  If you were what you eat, you are now what you tweet.

Twitter statistics list 100 million daily active users.  Data review indicates 215 million active users per month.  Mobile access has increased user activity and provides a greater contribution to digital data content.  Individualized digital data content is the DNA of technological marketing.

The craft of selling larger quantities at an accepted market derived level is dependent upon individualized digital data.  This indicates Twitter is not close enough to adulthood (still growing) to accurately determine a value.  The current  spoken value is 10 billion which does not account for anticipated growth.

Twitter has submitted initial documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission under the JOBS Act.  This allows companies with less than 1 billion in revenue to work with regulators on the (IPO) Initial Public Offering before the information is available to the public.  The average length of this process is 136 days.  The stock symbol is TWTR.

Social media is well accepted across the planet.  Twitter has a proven user friendly product designed to enable more people to participate in this mode of communication.  Twitter serves individual consumers which translates to individualized digital data content.  Individualized digital data content is the DNA of technological marketing which will distribute the goods and services to tomorrows clients.

The plan says we are a growing service in a global market with potential that steps beyond your typical tech product.  Our true value lies in your ability to perceive the larger picture that is unfolding.  Home Care Path wishes Twitter a record setting IPO!

Community Hospitals Brace Themselves With Roll Out

Community hospitals continually adjust their service to best  meet the local populations medical needs.  The name of the new game is cost reduction.  Hospitals are challenged to comply with Medicare cost containment regulations and stay a float during political delays with the health insurance exchange.

Expect to see tighter staffing of local health care facilities.  Health delivery systems will staff according to operation volumes.

Discipline specific departments will be instructed to develop appropriate drug and lab formularies to reduce waste.  Eliminate expensive variation, train staff to a predictable system of utilization that aligns with best practice.

Providers practice to the fullest extent of their license.  The doctor will not be employed to do the tasks a nurse can perform.  Skilled medical staff will not be employed to perform the tasks non-medical staff can perform.

Strengthen communication with community based organizations (www.homecarepath.com) capable of supporting initiatives to reduce hospital readmissions.  Care assurance is now an important piece of the patients ongoing service.
